VALENTINE'S DAY

So is it other than the religion of Allāh they desire, while to Him have submitted [all] those within the heavens and earth, willingly or by compulsion, and to Him they will be returned?

  Assalam u alaikum.
I just wanted to share an experience I had that indicates how sometimes small things that we tell to our children can make a big difference. We might not even think that they are very important.

One day before Valentines Day, my son, who is six years old, brought home a card cut in the shape of a heart. I was surprised and I asked him what it was. He told me, "Mama - It's a Valentine's day card I made for Sarah, a girl in my class." I asked him, "Do you know what Valentine's Day is?" He did not know as he is still small. My older son said that he did know about it. Through Allah's guidance, I read Al Huda's pamphlet on Valentine's Day and I got a chance to distribute it to older children and ladies in our mosque. I read it to both of them and they just listened. I realized the importance of my telling them the next day when my older son came home and said, "Mama - I am glad that you read to us about Valentine's Day. In school, everybody was asking others to be their Valentine. Since I knew what it really was about, I did not."

Later on he came to me and said, "A friend of mine asked a girl to be his Valentine and she refused. He was very upset. Then I told him about Valentine's history and he understood." After hearing this from him, I was so happy. Now I am thinking about how important it is to share these things with them. Satan always tells you that they will not listen but they do listen if you tell them in a friendly way. I wish we can have more pamphlets like that about all the occasions that our children encounter. I wish we can have more pamphlets like that about all the occasions that our kids think they are missing something. Jazakum Allahu Khairun for having such material available for us.

Please share more with us so that we can start to tell them more.

Assalamu alaikum
Syeda Naureen
